Where can you go swimming with children in Brussels?
For a mix of play, water familiarisation and first swimming strokes, pools with a paddling pool, a learner pool and a water slide offer complementary facilities. Two other factors are just as important when choosing: pool depth and water temperature.
Swimming pools with a paddling pool, a learner pool and a water slide
In Brussels, three swimming pools combine a paddling pool, a learner pool and a large water slide:
- Espadon swimming pool in Etterbeek;
- Sportcity swimming pool in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre;
- Laeken swimming pool.
However, Laeken’s paddling pool is currently closed until further notice (last checked: 23 September 2026).
This combination of facilities is particularly suitable for families looking to go swimming in Brussels with children of different ages.
Swimming pools with a paddling pool and a learner pool
Other swimming pools combine a paddling pool and a learner pool. One example is Poséidon in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, currently closed for renovation, with reopening anticipated in early 2027.
Calypso 2000 also deserves a place in this selection thanks to its paddling pool for toddlers. However, standard admission only covers the main pool and the paddling pool. The small learner pool is in a separate building within the complex, and access is not included in this ticket.

Why water temperature matters when swimming with children
A swimming pool may have appealing play features yet be unsuitable for a child who gets cold quickly. When paddling, playing near the edge or getting used to the water, feeling comfortably warm deserves as much attention as the facilities. These activities involve different levels of movement from swimming lengths.
Check the temperature of the pool you will actually use: temperatures vary between facilities, as the comparison shows. The stated temperature is a guide. For a child who is sensitive to the cold, focus your comparison on paddling pools listed at around 32 °C and learner pools at around 30 °C.
Espadon in Etterbeek: a full range of facilities for families
Espadon combines a paddling pool, a learner pool and a 52 m water slide. This makes it an option for outings with children who have different interests and levels of confidence in the water.
The paddling pool has depths of 20 and 40 cm, with a stated water temperature of 31 °C. The learner pool measures 14 × 7 m, reaches a depth of 1 m and has a stated water temperature of 29 °C. Toddlers therefore have their own space, separate from the pool used for swimming practice.
The large water slide is reserved for people who can swim; its landing pool is 1.30 m deep. The rules also require children under 8 to be accompanied by an adult. Being accompanied does not remove the requirement to be able to swim. Children under 10 must also be accompanied by an adult in the swimming pool facility.
Sportcity in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre: facilities with separate opening times
Sportcity has the “Wolubébé” paddling pool, reserved for children aged up to 3, a learner pool with a movable floor and a water slide approximately 20 m long. The stated water temperatures are 30 °C for the paddling pool and 28 °C for the learner pool. These temperatures are lower than those at some other facilities and may be less suitable for children who are sensitive to the cold.
The movable floor is usually set at a depth of 75 to 90 cm: check the display. The learner pool configuration is scheduled from 9 am to 6 pm, although adjustments may be made on site.
The water slide has its own opening times: 4 pm to 6 pm on weekdays during term time, from 2 pm on Wednesdays, and 9 am to 6 pm at weekends and during school holidays. Check these times before planning your visit if you want to use the different facilities.
Laeken: a swimming pool for families
Laeken swimming pool has all three facilities, but its paddling pool is temporarily closed, with no reopening date announced.
The learner pool remains of interest to families: it measures 18 × 12.50 m, with a stated water temperature of 30 °C and a depth of 1.10 m. Consider this depth in relation to your child’s height and swimming ability. The facility also has a large water slide approximately 20 m long.
If your outing is mainly about using a paddling pool, choose another facility until it reopens.
Poseidon in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert
Poseidon swimming pool is currently closed for renovation. Reopening is anticipated in early 2027, but no exact date has been confirmed.
Poseidon remains a useful place for families to know about thanks to its three pools: a 25 m main pool, a 16 × 8 m learner pool and a paddling pool for children under 6. The facility also has diving boards. Before the closure, the 1 m board could be used with the lifeguards’ permission, while the 3 m board was reserved for the diving club. These conditions should be checked when the pool reopens.
Before renovation, the stated water temperatures were 32 °C for the paddling pool and 30 °C for the learner pool, compared with 28 °C for the main pool. Another advantage for families: the learner pool and paddling pool are next to each other.
Calypso 2000 in Watermael-Boitsfort: a paddling pool with play features and a separate learner pool
Calypso 2000’s paddling pool is divided into two areas: one has a small slide approximately 1 m long, while the other has a mushroom-shaped fountain. Its stated water temperature is 30 °C. These play features are intended for toddlers.
The complex also has a learner pool with a stated water temperature of 32 °C. It is in a separate building from the main swimming pool and is reserved for specific activities, including the swimming school and baby swimming sessions.
Standard swimming pool admission therefore does not include access to the small learner pool. During a public swimming session, you can use the paddling pool and the main pool. To use the small learner pool, check the activities available and their registration or access conditions.
