About Hofstade artificial beach

The artificial beach of Hofstade is located in Zemst, in Flemish Brabant, between Brussels and Antwerp.
The 160-hectare Hofstade domain is a Belgian sports and recreational center managed by Sport Vlaanderen, the Flemish government’s sports administration (formerly BLOSO). This domain features a large sports and leisure area, a body of water with an artificial beach stretching over 650 meters, and a protected natural zone ideal for walking.

The beach borders an artificial lake where visitors can swim or enjoy pedal boating. During the summer, lifeguards are present to ensure the safety of swimmers. The beach has been equipped to host beach games, taverns, and a beautiful playground for children aged 3 to 12.

While most visitors come on sunny days to swim outdoors, the domain also offers a gymnasium, a multi-sports field, and a sports hotel with a capacity of 64 beds.

Hofstade beach is thus a place where sports, relaxation, and nature converge, providing visitors with an enchanting setting for a day outdoors. Whether for swimming, a stroll, or sports training, the domain offers a wide range of activities for all ages and interests.

Hofstade artificial beach

Hofstade artificial beach infrastructure:

A 650-meter-long and 30-meter-wide artificial beach has been developed along the shore of the largest lake, providing an idyllic setting for swimming and relaxation. The largest lake is dedicated to water sports, while smaller ones are reserved for fishing.

Surrounding the lakes, hiking trails wind through the woods, offering pleasant walks in a preserved natural environment, known for its wide variety of bird species.

In addition to the beach, the domain includes a wide range of sports facilities, including a gymnasium, a multi-sports field, and a sports hotel with a capacity of 64 beds, often used for sports camps, classes, and sports days.

For those interested in the history of sports, the Sportimonium, a museum dedicated to sports, is also located on-site.

When the swimming season is over, the beach remains accessible for walks, and even leashed dogs are welcome. A new water walkway has also been inaugurated, offering a unique walking experience in the heart of nature.

A new water sports complex is being constructed at Hofstade and is scheduled for completion by 2027. It will include an Olympic pool, a wave pool for surfing, and water ski tracks. This €46 million project also encompasses the renovation of the existing outdoor pool.

Designed for elite athletes as well as local swimmers, the complex is expected to host up to 300,000 visitors per year. According to local and sports authorities, it represents a major investment in the region’s development.

Construction began in 2022, with the project’s completion planned for 2027.
