An Olympic reopening after 2 years of renovation

After nearly two years of modernization work, the Louis Namèche swimming pool in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean has reopened its doors, ready to welcome up to 1,000 visitors per day and host international-level competitions.

This iconic neighborhood facility has undergone significant renovations to meet Olympic standards, integrate new technologies, and enhance user comfort.

Modernised facilities for comfort and safety

To celebrate the reopening, an open house event allowed Molenbeek residents to explore the newly renovated pool.

Key upgrades include:

  • An advanced monitoring system with underwater cameras
  • A jacuzzi for relaxation
  • Large bay windows flooding the space with natural light

An Olympic pool meeting international standards

Following its renovation, the Louis Namèche pool now measures 50 meters in length, a requirement for Olympic certification.

Before the renovations, it fell just 20 centimeters short of the standards set by the International Swimming Federation (FINA).
Today, this Olympic pool, featuring stainless steel walls and competition-grade plates, is ready to host national and international competitions.

A sustainable and energy-efficient pool

The €9 million renovation project was funded by the federal Beliris fund, the Brussels-Capital Region, and the Molenbeek municipality.

Sustainability and energy efficiency are at the heart of the renovations:

  • New condensing boilers
  • A heat recovery system
  • Modern filtration systems

These innovations significantly reduce energy consumption and operational costs. Additionally, the Poséidon anti-drowning safety system, equipped with underwater motion sensors, ensures the safety of swimmers, particularly children.
